Welcome

Deciding to start therapy is often both exciting and frightening, leaving one feeling ambivalent about the undertaking and highlighting the need to feel comfortable with one's therapist.  Rarely is it easy.  While talking about one’s distress may be relieving, it can also be fraught with anxiety.  Establishing a relationship in which you feel safe exploring a variety of issues and feelings is my initial, primary, goal.  I have 20 years of general experience and, in addition, specialize in the long-term effects of childhood trauma, current sexual problems, depression, anxiety, and addiction.

Problems in one’s current life sometimes seem clearly related to past trauma and other times seem not to have any particular antecedents. Either way, it's important to identify and understand the ways in which one thinks about oneself before internal shifts can occur.

As a psychoanalyst also interested in cognitive-behavioral therapy, I work within different modalities depending on what someone is looking for and what seems most useful. I strive to help clients feel as comfortable as possible, believing that a solid relationship is one of the fundamental requirements for successful therapy.

In addition to seeing clients, I teach workshops for parents about safety strategies they can  teach their children in order to minimize the risk of childhood sexual abuse.  Click on Protecting Your Children to learn more about my workshops.
